Southern Connecticut Gas Begins Cast Iron Main Replacement Project in Westport
The project aims to replace 11,000 feet of cast iron main along Beachside Ave.
Orange, CT— September 12, 2022 – As part of its commitment to provide safe and reliable service to all customers, Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) today announced it will replace cast iron underground facilities on Beachside Avenue in Westport with 8” high pressure gas main beginning the week of September 12, 2022.
This gas main replacement, totaling approximately 11,000 linear feet, will help provide further efficiency and resiliency to the natural gas system while helping to meet the community’s growing energy demands. Additionally, SCG will work closely with residents to ensure all improvements are performed safely and with minimal noise disruption, including nearby students and faculty at Green Farms Academy and residents who rely on the road for travel and pleasure.
Please be advised that work will begin during the week of September 12, 2022 and will continue until the project is finished. SCG anticipates installing the new gas main by December of 2022, with service to the newly installed 8” gas main estimated to begin during January of 2023 – weather permitting. The work will take place in the morning and afternoon hours, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please note that as the contractor begins working closer to the Green Farms Academy, off of Beachside Ave, it will adjust its work hours to 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to avoid further traffic impacts associated with school drop-off and pick-up.
Proper signage will be posted, as traffic will be impacted in the work area on Beachside Avenue between Beachside Commons and Sasco Creek Road going towards the neighboring town of Fairfield.
SCG has obtained the required municipal approvals and authorization to complete the work. Construction in your area may impact local traffic. Residents and drivers are encouraged to exercise caution through the work zones. Also, remember that SCG will:
- Complete the work in a safe and effective manner,
- Attempt to keep any inconvenience to a minimum,
- Be responsible for permanent restoration of any property that is disturbed by construction as soon as practical upon completion of work.
Any questions regarding the scope of this work may be directed to SCG Public Outreach (888.848.3697) for more information during regular business hours.
