AVANGRID Employees Roll Up Sleeves To Help Communities
ORANGE, CT — Nov. 14, 2016 — Employees of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR) and its companies — including Connecticut and Massachusetts subsidiaries, United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas, Connecticut Natural Gas and Berkshire Gas — fanned out from coast to coast during the month of October to make a difference in their communities.
Oct. 1 marked the 10th anniversary of Iberdrola Volunteer Day: an international corporate initiative organized by AVANGRID’s global affiliate, Iberdrola, S.A. Employees of AVANGRID and its U.S. networks, renewables and gas operations, celebrated the occasion with a month of community activities.
In Connecticut, employee volunteers picked up litter in a New Haven Park. They visited with nursing home patients in Stratford. And they sorted donated coats in Bridgeport.
Elsewhere, they prepared food for the needy in Augusta, Maine. They played bingo with nursing home residents in Rochester, N.Y. And they picked up trash from the highways in Minnesota, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. In all, some 350 employee volunteers, aided by family and friends, painted, landscaped, gardened, cleaned, sorted, built, walked and played to benefit their communities in 32 events in 15 U.S. states. “Each of these volunteer events was organized locally by employees with a ground-level understanding of the communities where they live and work, ensuring that their efforts have a strong impact where they are needed,” said James P. Torgerson, AVANGRID’s chief executive officer. “AVANGRID and its companies are deeply committed to the communities they serve, and our employees’ willingness to roll up their sleeves and pitch in reflects that core value. I am tremendously proud of them.”
